5 Awesome Drugstore Finds

Finding the perfect balance between high-end products that are worth the investment and drugstore finds that give you the most bang for your buck can be quite tricky. Honestly, some items are totally worth spending a little more on. For instance, I always opt for high-end toners and foundations — I’ve discovered (through a lot of trial and error) that they work better for me.

Yet, as much as I love my high-end goods, I value my favorite drugstore steals equally. The following five items work just as well (if not better) than some high-end products I’ve tested. Plus, the prices are completely worth the purchase. Why spend more than you have to?

1. Makeup Brushes

As someone who’s tried out a fair share of both high-end and drugstore brushes, Real Techniques® has proven to be my favorite brush brand of them all. These super soft and long lasting brushes blend, buff and line just to my liking —I have nothing but good things to say about this brand. They are the perfect balance of quality and affordability, what more could I ask for?

2. Mascara

I hardly ever invest in high-end mascaras because I’ve found that drugstore brands do just the trick. My all-time favorite has to be Maybelline® Volum’ Express® The Colossal® Waterproof Mascara — just a few coats keep my lashes looking thick and extra long. Plus, going for the waterproof option means no melting disasters here!

3. Blush

If you’re looking for a more affordable blush option that still has serious color pay off, look no further than e.l.f. Cosmetics’ extensive collection. I love a lot of their products, but I have a special spot in my heart for their $3 blushes. I don’t think I’ve purchased a high-end blush since discovering this brand (which was a really, really long time ago). For a rosy, healthy glow, try Mellow Mauve — this bad boy has never let me down.

4. Hair Care

Out of all the high-end items I’ve purchased, I’ve always been more willing to drop a little extra on hair products. So you can only imagine how ecstatic I was to discover a drugstore alternative that worked for my hair. One bottle of the OGX® Renewing + Argan Oil of Morocco Penetrating Oil lasts quite a long time. I use a small amount (around a dime size) after showering to achieve frizz-free, beachy waves without any heat necessary. Or, I use the oil to tidy stubborn flyaways and give my hair a healthy shine after styling.

5. Nail Polish

In my humble opinion, the crème de la crème of all nail polishes has to be Essie®. This brand has every color your heart could possibly desire — from pretty pales to loud neons. Two shades that I’ve repurchased are licorice —a shiny black option (because everyone needs a staple black nail polish), and bahama mama — a deep red shade that fits well in every season.
